Jack's Mannequin started off as a side project of vocalist Andrew McMahon, who is also the pianist and main songwriter of the band Something Corporate but has now become his main project.

Based in Orange County, California, the band was signed to Maverick Records and released Everything in Transit in 2005, peaking at 37 on the Billboard 200.The Glass Passenger was released in 2008 on Sire Records, sold 49,000 copies in its first week, and peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200. People and Things was released in 2011.

That year, McMahon discontinued the name Jack's Mannequin, and reunited the band in 2024.
